GTA 5 is probably the biggest game of all-time. It has sold over 135 million copies and is the most profitable entertainment product. Needless to say, the majority of gamers have experienced Rockstar’s open world crime game. Even if you haven’t, you’re probably familiar with one of the most iconic scenes from the game.

The second mission in GTA 5 sees Franklin returning home with Lamar when the two get in a comical argument. The low blows and delivery of Lamar’s lines have led to the scene getting memed to death, especially with mods. Players have added characters like Arthur Morgan, Kermit, Spongebob, and many, many more to roast Franklin.

After seeing the recent trend, GTA 5 actors Shawn Fonteno (Franklin) and Slink Johnson (Lamar) re-enacted the scene in real life. It’s perfect, it’s beautiful, and we couldn’t ask for anything better.

GTA 5 will be getting a re-release for Xbox Series X and PS5 later this year. The new remaster will carry various enhancements and exclusive content.

Grand Theft Auto V is like the video game version of Paul Rudd. It’s relatively old but damn, it only gets better with age (Paul Rudd is 51 years old, by the way, holy shit). I’ve written many mini-reviews and news articles for GTA Online’s largest content updates over the years. Each time, I’ve made the mistake of noting it as Rockstar’s way of sending the game out with a bang. Clearly that never happened and with a next-gen version coming in 2021, it probably won’t ever happen until GTA VI comes out.

If we didn’t have that knowledge, one could be forgiven for thinking the GTA Online Cayo Perico Heist update lives up to that same standard. A new map, a new heist, hundreds of new songs, and so on all populate what is being touted as the biggest update to the game yet. It continues to give life to GTA Online, making it one of the most well-supported games ever.

With Cayo Perico, players are offered a pretty lucrative but super intense job. The Madrazo family has asked you to infiltrate the fortified island of Cayo Perico under the guise of a big private beach party. Your goal is to get in and extract some valuable Madrazo family secrets from drug lord El Rubio, with the added benefit of being able to nab some extra goodies on the way out.

El Rubio, drug lord and owner of Cayo Perico
El Rubio, drug lord and owner of Cayo Perico

The beauty of this new GTA Online heist is that you’re given a ton of choice. You can do it solo or you can grab up to three others to help participate. The more players in your crew, the more gold bars, money, bags of weed, and other valuables you’ll be able to steal. While there is validity in a solo playthrough, there’s also a lot of extra depth when playing with your friends.

The heist itself does not hold your hand, whatsoever. It tells you where you need to be but doesn’t dictate how you get there, leave it, or what you do when you get there. It’s up to you and your crew to really hatch a plan and if you’re like me, it’ll usually go horribly wrong and you’ll have to quickly improvise. You may set everything up for a stealth approach, HALO jumping on to the island under the cover of nightfall. You parachute close enough to Rubio’s estate but still have some legwork and checkpoints to clear, leaving room for error.

If that error occurs (which is highly likely if you have friends like mine), you’ll be subjected to juggernauts, hordes of gunmen, and anxiety. That said, every approach is fun and there are reasons to replay the mission. Many have compared it to a Hitman mission and that’s entirely true. Rockstar has been criticized in the past for their incredibly linear mission design but GTA Online has opened up their level design to be as freeing as their open world.

GTA Online: Cayo Perico Heist update

They give you the tools, the opportunities, and let you just play. The way Rockstar designs the actual mission still allows for the high-octane action that you may see in a scripted mission. A helicopter may chase you down as you make your escape off the island, all while dodging jeeps of machine gun-wielding guards. It’s fun, it’s challenging, and it’s something I will continue to play with my friends over the holidays.

My biggest disappointment with the update is that Rockstar has been hyping this up since mid-2020. We’ve been expecting a GTA Online map expansion for quite some time and there is one… but it’s with a caveat. You can only play on the island during missions, there’s no “free-roam” on Cayo Perico. Grand Theft Auto is known for playgrounds to play in, Cayo Perico is like if that playground had your parents breathing down your neck as you went across the monkey bars. There are guards and cameras everywhere if you try to venture off, making it difficult to be too free. If you go off-road, you’re bound to slam into some oddly indestructible bushes as well.

It’s not a map that has a lot going on outside of a few key areas, so it clearly wasn’t designed for free-roam. It would’ve just been nice to have a new residence outside of San Andreas but alas, we will likely have to wait until GTA VI.

GTA Online: Cayo Perico Heist update

Ultimately, I hope the pros of this GTA Online update sets the stage for the future of the franchise, both in GTA Online and GTA VI/future Rockstar titles. The freeing mission design is a breath of fresh air, giving more replay value than the traditional heists we’ve seen in the past. There’s a lot to love here and I hope it’s not just a one-off for Rockstar.

Rockstar Games has released their biggest update to GTA Online in 7 years. The Cayo Perico Update brings an all-new heist outside of San Andreas. Players will be venturing out to a fortified private island known as Cayo Perico to rob a very powerful drug lord known as El Rubio. On top of new missions and the island, 3 radio stations have been added with 250 songs+.

Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser issued a rare statement to celebrate the launch of the new GTA Online update.

“The Cayo Perico Heist is our way of getting everyone together to party and dance in the safest possible way while also giving players the chance to take on our biggest and best Heist yet,” said Sam Houser. “It’s been a difficult and challenging year, and we wanted to make something everyone could have some fun in – we’re really excited for you to play.”

To perform GTA Online’s new heist, you’ll need to go to the Diamond Casino’s new nightclub, The Music Locker. There you’ll meet with the Madrazo crime family who will brief you on the situation. After that, you’ll have to drop a little over $2 million on a submarine to begin the heist. The Cayo Perico Heist can be done with 3 other players but can also be done solo. There are a number of approaches you can take to the heist, including minimal set-up. It sounds like it’s worth doing multiple times, especially with other players.

If you’re looking for other additional tools, there are new weapons and vehicles to help you with your heist. Along with a new helicopter and mini-submarine you can buy with your nuclear submarine HQ, you can see the full list of new GTA Online vehicles below.

Air Vehicles:

  • Annihilator (Stealth)
  • RO-86 Alkonost

Land Vehicles:

  • Pegassi Toreador
  • Vapid Winky

Sea Vehicles:

  • Kurtz 31 Patrol Boat
  • Shitzu Longfin

Rockstar will also be giving every GTA Online player a free Dinka Veto Classic go-kart this weekend. Be sure to log-in between Friday and Sunday to claim it. Rockstar also promises more music, vehicles, and their annual holiday event in the coming weeks.

Lastly, you’ll notice some new familiar faces in GTA Online. DJ Pooh and acclaimed rapper Dr. Dre make cameo appearances in the new update. You can take a look below.

Grand Theft Auto V is available now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The game will have a PS5 and Xbox Series X version with exclusive content in 2021.

Next week, Rockstar will launch their biggest update for GTA Online to date. The Cayo Perico Heist update adds an all-new map, a new heist, new music, and much more. While a lot of us will be spending our time on the new island, there’s still new stuff being added to Los Santos.

Rockstar has announced a brand-new nightclub for GTA Online and it’ll be housed within the Diamond Casino & Resort. Eagle eyed players may have notice construction begun on this new expansion to the casino just a few weeks ago. This new nightclub known as The Music Locker will feature new DJs and new ways to party. Players will be able to dance with a partner and show off new moves to other people on the dance floor.

Three new DJs will offer a variety of new music to dance to within GTA Online. DJs Moodyman, Keinemusic, and Palms Trax will be the resident DJs in The Music Locker in the coming weeks.

“Opening The Music Locker on week one is Detroit legend Moodymann, spinning motor city soul, techno and disco, ably supported by his backup dancers. Later in the season, Berlin collective Keinemusik will take clubbers on a journey from the sounds of open-air beach parties to the hottest nights in Europe, while Palms Trax is preparing to bring old-school house, exotic strains of disco and the latest from the UK underground to his Music Locker Residency later this month,” reads a press release.

Owners of the Diamond Casino’s penthouse will also get some VIP treatment. Penthouse tenets will get a table service in the VIP area, likely including luxury drinks and amenities. The Music Locker will open next week as part of the Cayo Perico Heist GTA Online update.

Grand Theft Auto V will come to PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021. PS Plus users on PS5 will also get a standalone version of GTA Online for free sometime next year.

Earlier this week, it was all but confirmed that Rockstar Games had acquired developer Ruffian Games. The studio is known for its work on Crackdown and help with porting Halo: Reach to PC. The team has joined Rockstar as Rockstar Dundee to work on future unannounced projects.

“We are thrilled to have Ruffian join the Rockstar Games family,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “The Ruffian team are a talented addition to Rockstar’s global studios, and we look forward to working together on future projects.”

Rumblings of a collaboration began last year after Ruffian had been hiring for a Rockstar project. Given they were a third-party and not owned by Rockstar yet, it’s believed they may be working on a remaster. It’s a mystery as to what game it could be if that’s the case.

“We are incredibly excited to be joining the Rockstar team,” said Billy Thompson, Co-Founder of Ruffian. “Not only do we have the opportunity to work on some of the most successful entertainment properties in the world, but Rockstar’s investment in our studio is a great sign for the continued expansion of game development here in Scotland.”

It has been two years since Red Dead Redemption 2 released. Rockstar will release a next-gen port of GTA V in 2021 but there’s no confirmation of any other games. Rumors have been swirling about Grand Theft Auto VI being in development but we likely won’t see it for a couple more years. If Rockstar Dundee is working on a remaster of something, it could fill a gap in the company’s release calendar.

On September 17th, 2013, a game released that changed pop-culture forever. Grand Theft Auto V had a level of success that can’t really be put into words… but you clicked on this page, so I’ll try my best.

There’s something serendipitous about this 7 year anniversary. When GTA V released in 2013, it was just 2 months before the release of the Xbox One and PS4. Now, in 2020, we’re 2 months away from Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Funnily enough, Grand Theft Auto V is coming to those consoles as well. It’s a game that is so wildly popular it has survived three console generations without taking a moment to breathe.

But I want to analyze how Rockstar Games has maintained that longevity. So, let’s go back to that day in 2013. I vividly remember the night and day contrast of the game’s first hour. You start out in the cold, dreary fictional Midwest state of North Yankton. A bank heist goes south, resulting in you heading west to the blue-skied state of San Andreas.

Grand Theft Auto V

You hit the sun-soaked streets of Los Santos in a flashy sports car, weaving through traffic and parking garages. The world had this unbelievable richness that captured me with such immediacy. The radio featured all these incredible songs and artists as well as a satirical yet enrapturing series of hosts and commercials. The skyscrapers felt large. The pedestrians felt unique. There was an unbelievable leap from GTA 4 to GTA 5.

Rockstar sucked us all in with a rich story that echoed cinematic crime classics like Heat. The set pieces were spectacular and layered. The characters were rich and allowed for these intertwining stories. Grand Theft Auto V brought a scope and scale never seen before by any other game.

Yes, we had numerous other open-world games. Yes, we were seeing the rise of cinematic stories. But Grand Theft Auto V operated at a level that every other game wished it could operate at. Even to this day, many games pale in comparison to the 2013 title. One might have expected developers to chase the ideas and concepts from GTA V but not many did.

Grand Theft Auto V

There aren’t any other major games with three protagonists you can switch between on the fly. Unlike the trendchasers of Grand Theft Auto 3, it seems everyone recognized they weren’t going to match GTA V’s ambition and scale. The big playground filled with speed boats, planes, roaring cars, and chaos is unrivaled.

There are a lot of games that can create big booms and car chases but not all of them do it well. The sound, the graphics, the gunplay, the handling of the vehicles, it all melds together here to create something wonderful. Of course, all of this laid the foundation for what has allowed GTA V to dominate for 7 years: GTA Online.

Rockstar made players wait 2 weeks after launch to play the ambitious new multiplayer mode. This gave people plenty of time to focus on campaign and go all-in on the online when it dropped in October 2013. The idea was big and something fans had long dreamed of. A world where you climbed the ranks of the criminal underworld, amassing riches and assets.

Grand Theft Auto V

You and over a dozen other people would be in a lobby where you could fight or join forces in the satirical city of angels. Your clothes, vehicles, and home were a sign of status. Of course, like real life, people wanted those status symbols badly. They found ways to exploit the game, giving them unfathomable levels of wealth.

This created this fascinating in-balance in the in-game economy which the game still suffers from. While the best car in the game in 2013 was about a million dollars, there are many cars now worth double that or more. Rockstar has done their best to counter these cheaters but when you have a game that has sold over 135 million copies, it becomes hard to control.

Many people wonder how the game is still selling copies. You’d think everyone has a copy by now but the beauty of Grand Theft Auto is that its the white whale of so many younger gamers. It’s the rebellious game, it’s the rock and roll of video games. It’s the one your parents tell you that you can’t play growing up, making you only want it more.

Grand Theft Auto V

When they eventually become old enough to play it, they go out and buy it. A new audience of players comes in year after year because it’s this fabled gem. It’s this cycle that will likely never end until Grand Theft Auto VI releases.

Grand Theft Auto V also released when YouTube’s gaming scene was really starting to peak. Channels like Rooster Teeth boosted the game with fun and creative let’s plays, giving a portal into the game for people who didn’t have it. Other channels stoked the fires of in-game conspiracies such as a mystery surrounding the game’s tallest mountain. Some believed a jetpack lied within it. Maybe aliens were involved. Some people even found ghosts.

Rockstar created a game ripe for social media right as it was starting to really become a huge tool used for marketing games. Grand Theft Auto V essentially marketed itself thanks to YouTubers. As of 2019, the game had gained nearly 40 billion views across all the videos about the game. It was the third highest viewed video game of that year on YouTube.

Grand Theft Auto V

That same support has also allowed the game to get frequent updates. We’ve gotten heists, houses, a working casino, and more. The scope and scale of the game has only gotten more and more insane. When it began, it was a simple rags to riches online game. It could get whacky if you wanted but it was still grounded within reason.

Now, in 2020, there’s laser guns, UFOs, flying cars and bikes, and much more. Remember how the first Fast and Furious was about stealing DVD players? Now the 9th movie is going to space, apparently. That’s what Grand Theft Auto V is like, except all in one game.

As we approach 2021, Grand Theft Auto V will continue to expand. A new location for GTA Online is planned for 2020 and a next-gen version will release in 2021 with exclusive updates. There will probably never be anything quite as big and well-supported as GTA V besides GTA VI.

While we have no idea when Grand Theft Auto VI is coming, one thing is probably certain. When it releases, Rockstar will probably have enough money to start manufacturing real flying cars.

Years and years ago, players became entranced with a mystery within Grand Theft Auto V. The mystery surrounded aliens and a bunch of weird oddities around Los Santos including UFOs. It was weird but it never seemed like there was anything more to it despite years of searching. Now, the mystery continues within GTA Online.

Buried in the new Summer Special update, GTA Online packs a hidden mission with a UFO. A group of dataminers called The Game File Gurus discovered the mission in GTA V’s files but no one knows how to activate it through actual gameplay. The UFO mission is part of one of the game’s business battles, an open-world event that anyone can engage in.

Usually, it’s just players gathering things like supplies or drugs and trying to transport it to their respective base. Other players can intercept these cargo hauls and destroy them or steal them. For this one, it tells players to go to the military base within GTA V, Fort Zancudo, and steal spaceship parts from a hanger. Inside said hangar, there’s a UFO that’s likely being stripped.

You then bring the parts to Omega, the weird hippy-like character who is obsessed with extraterrestrials. In the campaign, Omega gifts you a special car if you bring him enough collectible space parts. No one knows what the reward for completing this mission in GTA Online is, perhaps a UFO players can keep? Who knows!

No one knows how to trigger the mission and the Gurus believe that Rockstar is trying to keep these types of missions very hidden. Perhaps a special event is coming that will properly activate these missions in GTA Online.

Grand Theft Auto V is out now on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. While Grand Theft Auto 6 is reportedly in development, it won’t be the first GTA on next-gen consoles. GTA V will come to Xbox Series X and PS5 in 2021.

It has been 7 years since the release of the mega-popular Grand Theft Auto V. While we know Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development, we know next to nothing about it… except for maybe a location.

It seems that the beloved open-world crime series is moving back to the neon-drenched streets of Vice City. The Miami, Florida equivalent was the setting of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002. The game took place in 1986 and featured a lot of similarities to things like Miami Vice, Scarface, and more. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a return.

It looks like it’s about to happen as Take-Two, parent company of Rockstar Games, has registered a domain for GTA Vice City Online. An eagle-eyed Reddit user made the finding and noted that they’ve updated the GTA VI domain as well. We have no idea if that means GTA VI is going to get a reveal anytime soon (don’t hold your breath)

It’s also worth noting that Grand Theft Auto Online is confirmed to feature a new update later this year. This update will feature new heists in a new location, whether that’s somewhere in Vice City remains to be seen.

The site was updated in March of 2020 but registered way back in 2009. It could just be for safekeeping in case Rockstar decides to revisit that setting. Regardless, we are getting a Grand Theft Auto game in 2021… Grand Theft Auto V for next-gen, of course.

We’ll keep you updated if this story develops.

Grand Theft Auto V turns seven years old in about two months and it’s still kicking. The open-world crime epic continues to sell a stupid amount of copies, so much that Rockstar is bringing it to PS5 and Xbox Series X. With that, of course, means new content for GTA Online.

While the next-gen version of GTA V won’t hit until sometime in 2021, Rockstar is going to treat GTA Online fans very nicely this year. After a drought with no new content on Red Dead Online or GTA Online, fans began to openly criticize Rockstar for their lack of communication. This has seemingly prompted the company to respond with a general outline of what’s to come for both games.

GTA Online will be getting some new content this summer, the likes of which remains unclear. But the really exciting news is that new heists are coming and they’re seemingly moving away from the sun-soaked streets of Los Santos.

Rockstar noted in their press release that this update will be the biggest update GTA Online has ever gotten. It’ll also feature the “latest take on Heists in an entirely new location.” Some have hoped for a map expansion for a while, seems that we’re getting that. Whether it’s Liberty City, Vice City, North Yankton, or even Los Venturas remains to be seen. Whatever the case may be, this will likely lay the foundation for a wealth of new content on next-gen.

Rockstar noted previously that GTA V on next-gen will feature new content exclusive to the platforms, so this could be a way to usher that in. For you Red Dead fans, Red Dead Online is getting a new update soon as well!

“For Red Dead Online, players can expect a massive new update to arrive Tuesday, July 28th featuring a new Frontier Pursuit that will introduce players to the secrets of naturalism as part of an all-new Role, plus a new Outlaw Pass, tons of community-requested features and fixes, and much more to play and discover in the months to come.”

We’ll be sure to keep you posted as we learn more about updates in both games.
